Interview with Alexandru Capitanescu, manager of SIF 2 Moldova http://www.aieseciasi.ro/newsletter/index.php?ed=2010-05#56_en

I. Please give us a brief overview of you and your role within the company.

My name is Alexander Capitanescu and I am part of the the management team of SIF 2 Moldova since its foundation (December 17, 1992). The headquarters of this branch are located in Bacău. I have to say that I feel proud of what we have achieved so far, my work permit has only two boxes filled out: my former job in the agriculture and the current one in SIF 2 Moldova. My major is economics, but I also took some courses in France to deepen my knowledge and create new opportunities. You have to adapt!

II. What is the main activity of the company you work for?

SIF 2 Moldova is an investment company. Our business has been constant, for 18 years we sold and bought shares increasing company profits. Our professional staff is formed out of professional accountants specialized for the capital market. Our profit comes from transactions, so the more intense is the activity the more profit we get. To improve performance we must have a very good investment policy.

III. What are the company's future projects?

Projects would be too much said , we rather have some goals, some aims that we want to reach such as continuously optimizing the structure of the database portfolio, financial tools' diversification, cost reduction but also optimizing the internal organizational structure, namely improving the quality of the professional human resource.

IV. How do you see the impact of the economic crisis on both educational and entrepreneurial level?

From my point of view the biggest problem regards the professional training/education. Closing the industrial high-schools leads to the disappearance of some entities that could have some serious influence in reducing the effects of the economic crisis. By the moment we will try to boost the economy, Romania will not have qualified personnel in certain areas anymore. Also, another serious problem is that many children do not afford anymore to take even the primary school.

V. We know that SIF 2 Moldova was close to AIESEC Iaşi from the beginning. What had determined you to stick as a partner for so many years?

I think one of the main reasons is that you've always had collaborators and sponsors with initiative and the projects have always met the expectations. Personally, I still remember meeting the Ambassador of the Africa during the Leadership Gala, which was very interesting.

VI.How do you see the future collaboration with AIESEC Iaşi?

I hope this relationship will continue and that the collaboration will follow the same path, but at the moment -due to financial constraints-, the financial support will be slightly reduced compared to other years. Anyway I supported AIESEC also through the venues that we have made available for training sessions or conferences.

Between March 8th-April 25th 2010, AIESEC Iasi recruited students for the Exchange program. This is the 18th year since the organization offers young people the chance to participate in the Exchange program, conducted over 60 years, in more than 100 countries.

Exchange represents an internship abroad, where the applicants will work in their major field between 2 and 18 months. They can start building their careers in one of four areas: technology , management, education and development.

This year's total number of applicants was 178, out of whom 68 were selected after the interviews, as following: 20 for the development field, 12 for the area of education, 21 for management and 15 for technology.

The selected students attended on 24th and 25th of April a training program focused on topics like personal development, personal brand, multiculturalism, communication skills, country branding, all meant to prepare them for Exchange.

The internship program initiated by AIESEC is recognized by “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University from Iasi. The international experiences offered by AIESEC to the organizations' members are designed to prepare young people to become future leaders of the society. Such an experience brings you a certain professional development, but furthermore, it provides you a global perspective and it changes the way you behave towards society.
